Pipeline Equipment: WT PipeStar

The ”WT PipeStar” is a machine designed for the on shore pipeline industry, but can be adapted for other industries. The ”WT PipeStar” is a multi process machine and can be used with F.C.A.W., MCAW and G.M.A.W. applications. A hybrid combination of M.M.A. and F.C.A.W is another application, which has been successfully applied in the past. The ”WT PipeStar” can be utilised for Narrow Gap or Modified “J” Bevel MIG Welding. Using the ”WT PipeStar” for Flux cored welding processes allows for welding in a standard 60 Degree bevel. The FCAW process also allows for virtually defect free welding.

The ”WT PipeStar” comes with a user-friendly programming Unit Utilising Micro Processor Technology, which will set and save the following Welding parameters in a dedicated programme consisting of the required number of weld passes:

  • Travel speed
  • Wire feed speed
  • Oscillation Speed, Width and Dwell times
  • A large database of separate Welding passes can be set and stored or downloaded to a PC or PDA unit
  • When the parameters are established all other machine can be set from this unit by simply plugging in and downloading the information
  • All parameters currently used for Orbital Pipe Welding are attainable

The WT PipeStar comes with the following features included:

  • Variable speed Tractor adjustable for the operating diameters
  • Wire feeder Unit
  • Oscillator Unit with, speed and dwell control
  • 10 Lb. Wire spool Holder and brake
  • Motorised cross Seam and Height adjustment with manual intervention should that be required
  • All Electronic Controls on Board
  • Remote Control for all functions listed above. This will allow the operator to avoid the potentially hazardous fumes. This unit further allows the Operator to increase or decrease certain parameters but only within the accepted Welding Procedure.
  • A manually adjusted lead or drag head angle adjustment
  • Travel Band of a durable construction and low maintenance and which is easily installed on the Pipe
  • A Miller Power Source of 350 amp
  • Necessary Cables
  • 1-2 days training of the Contractors Technical Personnel or Welder Operators to be carried out at the Contractors facility or on Site. Further training is available at a minimal cost, if needed.
